For a long period in the past, Moulins was the residence of the dukes of Bourbon. The 15th century was the Golden Age of the town. The dukes used to invite famous artists to the town.

Moulins

The dungeon is the only part of the Duke’s palace that still stands. These days it is called La Mal-coiffée, because of its ill-fitting roof. The 45m-high structure was built at the end of the 14th century.

The cathedral was originally built to serve as a collegiate church. The choir stalls are in flamboyant gothic style, while the nave and the towers of the facade were built in 19th century neo-gothic style. The church is home to the ‘Masters of Moulins’ triptych.

The Jaquemart is a belfry, built between 1451 and 1455. It was damaged by fire in 1655 and 1946, but was repaired both times.
